England: Hever Castle
Scott & Krista's European Vacation: June 2003

We visited Hever Castle, in Kent, south of London, a short distance away from the London Temple. It was a real castle, with turrets, a moat and a drawbridge

The moat had lots of different sized fish swimming in the murky brown water. A well-fed, five-foot brown eel swam unashamedly on the surface in the shade of the drawbridge.

The castle had been the childhood home of Anne Bolyne, wife to Henry VIII, and it was given her as a wedding present by her father Sir Thomas Bullen.

The castle was amazing. They wouldn’t allow photography inside the castle, but Krista and Scott took plenty outside. It was ‘rose week’ the woman at the entrance told us, and there were over 600 roses in bold floral sprays and arrangements throughout the interior of the castle.

Dad and Mom stayed in the shade and sat while Krista and Scott went through the castle, the yew maze and the gardens and grounds.
